Prescription sunwear
What actually goes into a prescription sun lens.
A sunglass lens carrying your prescription is a stack, not a single piece of plastic. Our opticians will talk you through every layer of it. Tap or hover any layer to see where it sits — front surface on the left, your eye on the right.
- Anti-reflective coating Applied to the back surface so sun behind you stops bouncing off the lens into your eye. Add-on
- Mirror or gradient finish A cosmetic front finish, applied over your own prescription rather than instead of it. Optional
- Tint & polarising filter Grey, brown or a driving tint. The polarising layer cuts reflected glare off water, wet road and snow. Most asked for
- Your prescription curve Ground into the back surface. Single vision or digital progressive, matched to the frame's base curve. Incl. out-of-range
- Polycarbonate or Trivex base The blank everything else is built on — lighter than glass and far harder to shatter. In stock
